Better Than I Thought

So today I told you about my idea for the 59th Street Bridge Mission, a blatantly stolen title for a movement towards slowing down the pace of our seemingly always on-the-go culture. To quote Paul Simon from his song of a similar title, "Slow down, you move too fast. You've got to make the morning last. Just kicking down the cobblestones, looking for fun and feelin' groovy." It would be nice to start each day within these lyrics. Put a cup of Turkish coffee in my hand and I'd be good until noon. Naturally I would be accused of being lazy, but the idea of letting my mind follow the surroundings and inspirations the world has to offer, creating a stream of creativity in the process, feels like a fine endeavor to me.

Obviously you know of my affinity towards Paul Simon and hence how I came up with the title for this imaginary mission. But as with so many other random ideas that we share, the title is even more perfect that I originally thought. The 59th Street Bridge not only reminds us to slow down through the lyrics of a great song, but also from a scene in one of our favorite movies.

Can you believe that? Woody and Diane look to be in the serenest of worlds. Don't ask me the number of odd leaps my brain took to make me wonder if the bridge from this classic scene was, after all, the 59th Street Bridge. I guess the many New Yorkers of the world would scoff at me for not knowing this. But imagine how thrilled I was when I came upon this coincidence of sorts. I just had to share it with you. And it seemed like a nice way of starting this blog that we've been discussing for some time now. Look forward to hearing from you :)
